3rd Line Support / Installation Engineer – Basingstoke –NEW!!
Focus IT have the pleasure of working with this WELL established IT Solutions Company. My client offers Managed services solutions to SME/ Medium sector right up to blue chip clients.
Due to company expansion and new business growth we are now looking for another IT Support Engineer to compliment the existing dynamic team. The role will give you full life cycle to my clients IT business solution. Predominantly providing 3rd Line Support duties. All support must be performed with minimal business impact on the customer and within agreed service levels.
The role will require you to work on various Microsoft platforms and windows Servers. Ideally knowledge of infrastructure project design experience is what my client is seeking. Responsibilities will involve performing on-site client visits and remote office support to resolve technical incident along with standard duties such as PC Break/Fix and basic diagnostics of network protocols. You will be able to work under pressure and be able to handle multiple issues within different client IT infrastructures.
Presales Technical Experience (Some) – My client has a Sales team that do need hand-holding selling solutions
Exchange Experience – Install, Configuration and Troubleshooting. This is core to Exchange. No “creating users and mailboxes” – Around the Hub Transport, Client Access, Routing, PowerShell or Migration leagues
Office 365 Mirgration and server install knowledge
Active Directory – Install and Configuration and Troubleshooting. No real day to day management of users and objects. AD needs to tie into DNS/DHCP and Group Policy administration, configuration, installation and troubleshooting. These are all core to Server installations
Server 2008/2012 are adequate, they don’t change between revisions.
Firewalls – Doesn’t matter what brand but need to ascertain that that can troubleshoot routing, vlans, firewall features, create rules, etc. We’re a Watchguard house but do look after some SonicWALL’s, Fortinet/Fortigates etc.
Switching/Networking – Knowledge of Layer 2 routing, don’t need OSPF/BGP etc routing protocols, VLANs are important. Doesn’t have to be Cisco and doesn’t have to be command line (CLI) – A basic understanding of creating a switch topology and VLAN technologies
VMWare vSphere – A must, knowledge of bare-metal installation, configuration, vCenter, vCenter clusters, SAN technologies (iSCSI)
SANs – Don’t have to be £50k SAN products, basic SAN knowledge would suffice, creating Raid sets, configuring iSCSI, jumbo frames and such
The ideal candidate will come from an outsourced or IT service background, with impeccable customer service skills. You will be proficient in Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Exchange, Terminal Server, Microsoft XP, Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office 2003/ 2007 along Active Directory.

Either one of the following qualifications be beneficial: MCP/MCITP/CCNA/VCP
Knowledge of SQL Server
Terminal Services (RDP)
Blackberry Enterprise Server
iSCSI Storage area networks.
Certified in either MCSE / VCP / CCNA – all beneficial
Good exposure to Server installations on various win servers and possibly Exchange Servers.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Support Engineer with good knowledge of Windows servers and exposure to Virtualisation. Please note this is a permanent opportunity where the role will be split between remote office support and client’s sites in and around the Basingstoke area (M3 / M4 Corridor).
A minimum of a MCP would be required for this role, however good career history/commercial experience is just as important.
This role is a 3rd Line Technical Support Engineer and can also be known as a Support Analyst, Helpdesk Analyst, 2nd Line Engineer, Field Service Engineer, Technical Engineer, IT Support Engineer and Helpdesk Engineer.
The role is based in Basingstoke, Hampshire and is commutable from Reading, Slough, Farham, Surrey, Guildford, Southampton and South London.
