MI Analyst – Thame, Oxfordshire
Focus IT have the pleasure of working with this award winning, former Tech Track 100 company now listed on the London Stock Exchange. They are seeking a MI Analyst to complement their existing team.
The primary responsibility is ensuring the timely delivery of accurate Management Information to both their internal business teams and their business partners.
Currently this is achieved by the creation of bespoke reports, produced by writing SQL scripts from scratch to extract data from multiple databases and export this into excel for further customisation and analysis. The delivery of frequent reports are automated using their scheduling and exporting tool, ready for it to be QA’d and released to the end users. With the requirements for MI ever increasing the current process is unsustainable, so they have started a project to move to Microsoft Power BI.
The client is therefore seeking a candidate with experience of using Power BI, or extensive experience with a comparable solution. They will also consider candidates who have a strong desire to learn Power BI, provided they can demonstrate their capability for learning through previous examples during their career. Expert product consultants will be leading with the project, which will create the perfect environment to learn the solution whilst being involved in the hands-on implementation.

- Working through the backlog of MI requests, drawing upon business knowledge to understand what is being requested, then using knowledge of the IT system databases to write custom SQL queries to extract the data into suitable formats, e.g. Excel spreadsheet
- Analysing data and providing summarisations of findings
- Promptly respond to ad-hoc requests for data or data analysis
Required Skills and Experience:
- Passional about data analysis and understanding data in relation to business concepts, entities and processes; appreciation of the context of data
- Strong experience with SQL, writing TSQL and understand relational database design
